Multi-Dimensional Role of Azad Schools under Khudai Khidmatgar Movement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Abstract

ThepurposeofthisstudywastopresentthemultidimensionalroleofAzadSchools under Khudai Khidmatgar Movement in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. Major objectives were to give the background of the Khudai Khidmatgar Movement; the key role of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and the establishment of Azad Schools. The study mainly addressed three research questions. Firstly, it was to describe the aim of Azad Schools in the socio- political awakening of Pukhtuns. Secondly, it was to highlight the curricular activities being held with full enthusiasm on the annual days. Thirdly, it was also to focus on the technicaland vocational education being givento the students in Azad Schools. The recommendations of the study suggested that the educationists need to practically implement the philosophy of the Azad Schools. Today, the eyes of thewholeworldarefocusedon Pakhtunkha waand Pukhutns. Pukhtuns are confronted with socio-political imbroglio, terrorism, violence and the issue of identity. In the present era, Pukhtun society is in need of non- violence, social equality and technically skilledpeoplewhichwasthemainmottoofAzadSchoolsunderthedynamicleadership of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, known as Bacha Khan.
